Good morning all
This week's report following the home game yesterday vs Sampfords.
Reporter this week - Stuart Logan.
Match report vs Sampfords (any factual errors are entirely intentional!)
As we prepared at the Hare & Hounds over a few jars of lager, the sun was shining and a promising day of cricket beckoned, albeit with a 2pm start thanks to Dan Common's poor planning!
Once finally in the middle, Jepson maintained his 100% record at the coin toss and put Sampfords in the field.
Logan and Gordon opened, Logan opening his account with a 6 off the second ball (Wellsy still owes a beer for that!!) After that, it was all Gordon, who made his way to 50 very swiftly, whilst Logan departed for 24, bowled, which bought new player, Matt Archer, to the crease. Bev marched on to his 100, though, in his own words, he was a little fortunate to have made it there, having been dropped 5 times (at least!) Not his most fluent, but it's a 100 in the book!! Bev retired giving others a chance to have a bat. Some good knocks followed, Min crashed a lovely 6 over mid wicket, Jeppo following with a similar blow later on (Wellsy owes him a pint too) Gary Chenery returned for his first game in a good few years and managed to carry his bat! LCC set Sampfords 228 to chase down.
Following a wonderful tea from Callum (his only positive contribution to the game) we headed out into the field. Callum opened up and quickly found their number 1 was a gun bat. Pun (another one of our new players!) started from the other end. Sadly, neither could make the breakthrough. LCC continued to work hard in the field, although Mr Jepson was a little suspect at mid-on on a couple of occasions, but it took Deepak to finally get their number 1, clean bowled. Before that Mr Common had bowled very tightly, taking the other opener, a sharp catch behind from Gaz (I think??). With that the tide turned and LCC were on top, the run rate becoming impossible to keep up with. Bev took a blinder a short mid wicket off Matt Archer, to give him his maiden wicket for LCC (although, he was a little sheepish, given it was a half tracker that should've been sent over the trees!!) Logan had to retire to the pavilion before the end, as his groin had decided enough was enough. Sampfords were eventually left with over 100 from the last over and LCC claimed the win. It's 2 from 2 so far for the Friendly XI. Friday 1st May sees the start of the T20 Campaign at Cavendish and on Sunday, we're playing at West Bergholt, see you there!!
Champagne moment - Logan - 6 off the 2nd ball of the match (pint pending!!)
