MATCH REPORT vs GESTINGTHORPE – HOME – SUNDAY 2nd AUGUST

It was a return to cricket after quite a break following a couple of cancellations and we returned to the Pleasuredome to face Gestingthorpe.
The day started with the traditional pre match drinks at the Hare & Hounds – bar Tris who was on Lemon squash and some vanilla protein shake – another healthy spell for him after eating too many chicken wings!
We arrived for a very sunny day of cricket on a dust bowl – with patches of green and softer strip after Bev had been watering all week to avoid playing on a broken up road.
We were elected to field first in a 35 over game.
The official stats are still waiting to be transferred from Play Cricket and will be on website in due course but key moments below –
Logan with 4 wickets over 2 spells
Gary took a great catch in slip with dive with one hand
Tris held a catch at slip – even with a gammy finger.
Cal took a catch after it felt like an eternity to come down – no clap before this time round.
Some big hitting from Gestingthorpe – lots of 4s as the field was fast but some very big 6s.
The champagne moment of the day and strong contender for the season, was Cal sliding in for his second catch and then posing like he was on a photo shoot – all in one motion – even with his Wolverine hair.
We got them all out for around 229.
We were presented with a great tea from Gary and tried to keep feeding the away team as we prepared to go and chase the total – which has not been unachieveable when played them in the past.
Without the exact numbers, the key moments below from our innings.
Logey was bowled early on.
Tris was facing their opener and nearly seen off before a speedy wobbler inswinger bowled him.
Bev was in for a short stint before being caught in short.
Jeppo was in steadying the ship at one end and Dan came in.
Dan already on 3 ducks and 2 of those golden, faced first ball and knicked behind but was dropped by the keeper. Brief innings and was walking back soon after for 1 or 2.
Si came the crease and hit a lovely four before top edging one up in the air and being caught.
Matt joined Jeppo and both scored into the 30s but Matt was first to depart.
Wellsy for a brief stint before I stepped back on home turf for first weekend game for a long time. Needing runs I sung the bat at everything and connected with absolutely nothing. The spin was deceiving me – always has – and went to go down to attack one and missed it and was stumped.
Gary was next and hit a couple of 4s with one lovely cover drive but hit double figures – after moaning he wouldn’t get anything!
Cal joined Jeppo for a final push and hit a few good shots and finished not out.
Jeppo was out last and we finished around 75 short of requirements.
A loss but we will dust off and go again.
We finished off down the Hare with a couple of pints.
