Good afternoon all
Game versus Stansfield last weekend on 17th was cancelled.
Sunday 24th May we visited Gestingthorpe.
This weeks match reporter was Simon Hobson -
LCC suffered their first Sunday defeat of the season away to Gestingthorpe. According to Noel Coward, Only Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun, there were no cowards on that pitch, just super hot players, and I’m not talking form.
After a couple of pre match re-hydration pints at the Pheasant. LCC Won the toss and batted first, Stuart Logan faced the first ball with fine intent, dispatched for four, the second ball again was sent scurrying to the boundary. Unfortunately, that was largely where the batting threat ended, out for 8 three balls later. What followed can only be described as a mini collapse with a little cameo fight back to give LCC hope of snatching something. Mssrs Archer, Pearson and Jepson added 14 of 26 balls before Mr Wells took a wander down the crease and was stumped for a duck. LCC were 39 for 5 of 11 overs at one stage.
Bev was looking a little forlorn in the middle and hoping someone can stay with him long enough to build an innings. Cometh the hour, cometh the Deepak, lifting spirits and showing us how its done. Adding 30 runs and keeping Bev moving faster than normal who was the the pick of the batters on 47. Combined with the last 4 to reach 154 all out after 33 overs.
The tea was perfectly seasoned and a decent spread, and the cold drinks were more than welcome and desperately needed.
The pick of the bowlers for LCC was Chowny, with 2-19 from 4, followed by S Wells 1-9 of 3. But this is tale of the field and the battle that was fought by three individuals, two with their bodies and one who had an amazing dream that he caught two catches in the game.
C. Waugh started his 4th over with a wicket, which gave the team a little hope, alongside the first of Nevs two catches for the day, but it was unfortunately short lived despite a late flurry of wickets from Chowny.
Special mention goes to the fielding by Deepak, sacrificing his body on numerous occasions to stop boundaries. This inspiration must have really inspired Jeppo who decided to also sacrifice himself to protect the boundary. Having taken a solid blow to the twins, a brief moment of silence and 20 plus men crossing theirs legs in sympathy, was followed by significant sniggering and several comments about pain and swelling.
A disappointing loss having left ourselves 40 odd runs shy at the start, but we go again on Wednesday at the pleasuredome against the Gestingthorpe T20 team where we hope to avenge ourselves.
