MATCH REPORT vs WICKHAM ST PAUL - SUNDAY 18th MAY

23 May 2025

Good evening all, I hope you have all had a good week.

Sorry for the delayed updates this week........I was away watching Spurs win the UEFA Cup! COYS!

Anyway, back to Cricket and on Sunday we welcomed Wickham St Paul to the Pleasuredome.

Match report this week is from the Skipper, Tris Skinner -

'LCC got put in the field and with a strong line up facing them, Logan and Wells started the attack trying to get them out.

Both bowled well and the WSP/Halstead openers got their score to nearly 70, when the skipper made an inspired bowling change, calling upon Chris Chown to tempt them out with his spinners.......

He went on to get the first 3 wickets of the innings and a run out too!

We contained their middle order well and Common got himself a couple of wickets and Waugh chipped in with one too.

All bowled tidily to restrict WSP to 191

A lovely tea was enjoyed of French sticks before we had to tackle the run chase.

Skinner and Logan went about it in their usual attacking ways, but we lost Logan on 16 to a cracking ball from their opener. Score at 36.

Nev came to the crease fresh from his 50 midweek but he got a good ball first up and was heading straight back to the pavilion.

Skinner was connecting nicely with 'some' shots and hit 4 sixes, 1 going through the doors of the pavilion and waking up the Chairman, who was having a kip on the sofa!

Common was supporting well at the other end, when Skinner went for 1 big shot too many and was bowled for 44.

This brought the returning Jonny Weavers to the crease and he looked in good touch with Dan and they pushed the score along to 116, when Dan finally got out for 33.

Jonny followed soon after for 23, with Waugh coming to the crease to support Wells.

These two knocked the ball around to all parts and Wells got another 3 sixes to his name, in a knock of 35, before being caught out with the score on 176 for 7.

Chown (2 not out) came to the crease and him and Callum, who played a brilliant innings of 28 not out, saw us home with 2 overs to spare!

Team selected Chown as Man of the Match, and celebrated his pint from our Man of the Match sponsors, Hare & Hounds Leavenheath - presented by Chantel.

A brilliant win and we are now 3 out of 4 wins on Sundays, with West Bergholt away next week'

Another good win at home, now to do it on the road.

Further updates to follow shortly.

Thanks

Dave
