MATCH REPORT vs HADLEIGH - HOME - Sunday 1st September

06 Sep 2024

Good morning all

Last Sunday we welcomed Hadleigh to the Heath.

After a couple of pints in the Hare before the game, we ventured up to the ground - well presented by

Bev and Rob.

After the toss we were elected to Bowl first. After a couple of losses, we were keen to get back to winning

ways.

Tris selected Wellsy and Jeppo to get us underway.

Wellsy from the High Road end. Steady opening and went for a few boundaries but into the fourth over

he took a double wicket maiden with both nicks behind and taken well by Bev. Wellsy finished his spell

of 6 overs with a further 2 maidens and finished 6 overs, 2 for 24, 3 maidens.

At the other end, Jeppo from the Pavilion end, opened with a maiden. A few boundaries in between

but in the third over, over took the high scoring opener out by bowling him out. Next over a wicket on 1st

ball with a catch from Logan and then a third wicket, bowling their number 5 in a wicket maiden.

Also finishing his spell with a maiden, finishing 6 overs for 3 for 13 with 3 maidens.

During this spell, there was also a run out, fielded well by Logan and Bev took the bails.

Hadleigh after 12 overs were on 37 for 6.

Cal and Superted were next into the action.

Cal getting a wicket on his first ball and Bev taking the catch behind for his hattrick of catches for the

day. Cal continued for a 5 over spell but no further wickets during his spell and finished 5 overs, 1 for 15.

Superted had 3 overs in total - first 2 were getting knocked around so Tris brought on Logan.

Logan had a a tight 4 over spell and got his first wicket in his second over, bowling their 2nd highest

scorer. He then got his 2nd wicket, also bowling their number 10. Logan finished 4 overs 2 for 6,

1 maiden.

Superted was back for 1 over and did get a wicket, bowling their youngest player who finished on 13.

3 overs 1 for 19.

We bowled the whole team out in 23.5 overs for 82.

After a lovely tea supplied by the skipper Tris, the boys went out to bat to aim to win this.

Logan opened with Simon Hobson.

Simon was the first to fall being caught out for 4. At the other end Logan started off his scoring with

four 4s and went on to get a few more boundaries and went on to get 50 before being caught out.

Will Stacey came in to bat at 3 and getting a chance to have a go. He got a few runs including a

boundary before being caught out for 8.

Cal was in the middle at number four and playing a steady innings. We only had 10 players so

We had one player provided from Hadleigh who was brother to 2 of the youngsters playing for Hadliegh.

He had a brief visit and departed on 1 after being bowled. A brief panic as we 4 down but the end was

in sight and Cal and Bev saw us home, getting the target in the 16th over.

Cal finishing 9 not out and Bev on 4 not out.

Leavenheath back to winning ways!

Having finished very early, we had an extended stay at the Hare and Hounds.

We have 2 games to go now - we have Boxted this weekend at home. The week after is off due to

away team not having a ground and also us not being able to provide a side to host at home.

Fingers crossed the weather holds out and will see you all on Sunday.

Thanks

Dave
