Good morning all
Sorry for delay in sending this report.
On Sunday 4th August 2024 we played Gestingthorpe at home, looking to avenge the loss away by
a few runs earlier in the season.
Tris had to pull out due to injury, so I skippered for the day. I lost the toss but we were elected to bat first.
We had 10 players and this included myself, also injured but we had the inform pair opening - Logan
and Bev.
The pair had an opening partnership of 153. They were going at equal pace but Logey got his 50 first
and then went on to get 86 before being caught out.
Gary - plays with Jeppo in mid week cricket - joined Bev and was a brief visit and was out for a Golden
duck.
Nev, came in for a fleeing visit but was trapped LBW for 10.
Jeppo joined Bev for a while but Bev was bowled out for 65.
We had an old LCC collapse and did not add to much more to the total -
Jeppo - bowled for 7
Dan Common - caught out for 13
Simon - friend of Tris - out for a Duck
Wellsy - caught and bowled for 8
Little - out for a 2nd ball duck
Cal not out for 4
TOTAL - 215 set from 31 of 35 overs
After a lovely tea - with lots of mild cheese.......to the players delight, we went to field.
Wellsy opened the bowling and got their opener out, clean bowled for 1 on last ball of first over
Jeppo opened the other end and between the pair, they kept it tight but we certainly noticed it with 1
and half (me) in the outfield missing.
Jeppo got their number 3 out in his last over.
Wellsy had their number 2 with a nick behind - apparently off the pad - didn't walk and their skipper
umpiring. Angry Wellsy calmed down after a couple of overs and apologised but standing at slip - It
was clearly off bat or glove - his bat was nowhere near the pads........however, we continued - and so
did he - going on to finish 103 not out
Wellsy - 7 overs 1 for 38
Jeppo - 7 overs 1 for 37
Logey and Cal were on first change and very tight start and Cal got a wicket in his 4th over.
It was the opener joined by Kenny from Sudbury and it was attack the ball and couldn't cover the gaps
Logey - 7 overs 1 maiden for 46
Cal - 7 overs 1 for 42 with 1 maiden
Dan and Gary came on to bowl trying to gain a wicket but to no avail - they put the hammer down and
started raining boundaries.
Dan - 0 for 43 from 3 overs
Gary 0 for 16 from 2 overs
Wickets were key and today was not our day. They chased down the target in 33rd over.
We move on and I now know I will not be playing until injured hip is sorted!
Thanks
Dave
