Good evening all
On Sunday we had our first away day and Hadleigh was the destination.
After sunning it in the local pub for a couple of much needed pints, we ventured to the ground and
our Skipper, Tris (GOAT) was back to take the reigns.
I am unsure if the toss was won or gentlemen's agreement, but we were to bat first. Hadleigh had
quite a few youngsters.
Tris, after being in the runs in Turkey (not the cricket kind!) he was still feeling delicate and did not open
It was agreed that players would retire at 50 today, which we know is not a Tris decision.
Logan and Bev opened the batting. It was a competition to see who could the 50 first. This was won by
Logan and retired 50 not out. Bev was joined by Cal Waugh. Short stint in the middle before Bev retired
on 51 not out. It was over to Cal and our latest addition Lee to get the runs going.
Lee was in for a couple of overs before being bowled for 1.
We were one short for the day and Hadleigh loaned a player to use for the day - William Lowe. Thanks
for the assistance!
Cal and William put on a solid partnership of 49 before Cal departed for his highest score in LCC
colours for 34 after being bowled.
We had a fleeting visit from Tris, who, with his new eyes didn't pick the ball up and was bowled after
a 'big' leave. He was bowled for 5
Wellsy came to the middle and started to take a shine to the bowlers and got a quick fire 23 before
being caught out.
Chown faced a few balls before being caught out for 1.
Nev came in with a few balls to go and got 1 not out.
Will Lowe (Hadleigh) scored 37 not out - to the annoyance of his Hadleigh team mates who were
trying their best to get him.
We scored 227 from our 35 overs.
After a quick drink, we were out to the middle. Superted and Lee were asked to open the bowling.
Lee with his third ball of the innings was to strike first and trapped their skipper with LBW.
Lots of groaning and their skipper was out for 1 (and not best pleased)
Ted then got a wicket maiden in his second over - a great catch in slip by Bevan.
We had to wait a few overs before getting another wicket but the score was being kept down.
Ted next to strike in his 6th over with another wicket maiden, this time bowling their number 3.
Lee, not to be outdone, got their number 5, with another superb catch by Bev.
Ted finished his spell - 7 overs, 2 maidens 2 for 21
Lee finished his spell - 7 overs 2 for 15
Pacey - yes, the Stuart Pacey - was brought on with Cal Waugh at the other end.
Pacey didn't get any wickets and was consistent at 15 per over but was still smiling - 0 for 45 from his
3 overs
Cal got a wicket in his 3rd over by bowling their number 7 (their number 3 retired on 51)
Cal - 4 overs 1 for 25
Will (Hadleigh) was asked to bowl and Wellsy.
Wellsy took a wicket in his 2nd over before having to come off due to injury. 1 for 7 from 2 overs.
Logan was then to come on, with the game getting stretched, a few good scoring overs could have
brought them back in.
Will at the other end got a wicket with his last ball of his 5 over spell.
Logan, bowled 2.3 overs and bowled the last 3 people out 2.3 overs 3 for 10 ( this after his first 3 balls
went for 10 runs and the skipper wondering what was going on!)
We finished victorious and first win of the season - bowled then out for 164 from 30.3 overs.
First win in the bag!
We have had to cancel our visit to Little Easton this weekend as numbers are too low - 6 available.
Our next game is Eight Ash Green at home the week after - if the returning pond has dried up.
Have a good bank holiday and see you soon.
