Leavenheath Cricket Club News story

THIS WEEKS UPDATE

16 May 2025

Good evening all.

Last Sunday we welcomed Linton at home - now named Pleasuredome by Logey.

I do not have a match report - still waiting (nudge nudge!)

However, the result is online.

Linton set 213 - all out - from their innings

Share of wickets across the team but understand could have had them out earlier if held some catches.

We went in to chase but fell short and lost all our wickets falling 24 short on 190.

Logan - 61 runs, Bevan - 53 Runs, Wellsy - 34 runs and tris with a duck are main scores

On Wednesday we welcomed High Street Rangers for the inaugural T20 League match, to the Pleasuredome.

Sharp 6pm start saw Leavenheath fielding first on a very sunny, warm evening.

The team playing under the T20 rules for the first time - not sure it was mentioned if people had read the rules as yet, was the common saying for the evening from the Skipper

Regardless it kicked off with Logan and Dan Common with the bowling - various spells as had to play 10 overs one end and then 10 the other due to the dying sunlight, to ensure game is finished.

Logey finshed with 4 wickets for 34 from 4 over spell, Dan with just the 1 wicket for 20 from 4 overs.

Superted and Jepson were the next bowlers - again over various spells. Jeppo 1 for 30 from 3 overs, Ted 2 for 28 from 4 overs.

Return of Kieron Lock and Chowny had a bowl - Kieron 1 over 0 for 7 runs, Chowny1 over 0 for 9 runs

The Skipper brought himself on - after saying wont bowl again due to his knee - took 2 wickets for 23 from 3 overs.

Catches in the game from Skinner, Logan, Bevan.

Unfortunately a few dropped catches - 3 from Nev - We bowled High Street Rangers out for 140.

Quick turnaround and BBQ going on by Wellsy during 2nd innings, we kicked off with the chase. Well I say kicked off, I mean stumbled off.

Skinner opened and was out for a duck 4 ball. Dan came in to replace him and was out 2nd ball - 0 for 2 after 1st over.

Logan at other end got the runs going and got a quick fire 17 runs before popping one up to be caught out.

I am not really sure what was happening with wickets there after as I got a cider and a burger and the wickets were falling.

Bev in at number 4 and was bowled out for 1, Jeppo in at 5 and quick fire 6 before being caught out.

Return of KP - who was a wippet in the field, but lacked match practice with bat and was caught out for 1.

We were 27 for 6 at one point and looked rather dejected. Roll in Kieron Lock and a determined Nev, who was clearly annoyed in the break after the drops in field.

I did not really notice how quickly the scoring got until last few overs but Kieron was bowled for 13, with Nev knocking runs about. He was then joined by Chowny but getting most of the strike but was bowled for 5.

The score book doesn't show the over total but we came in to the last over with Nev and Si Hobson. Not an impossible target but needed 25 from the over. Dot ball to start was not ideal!

However, Nev then hit 4, 6, 2 and the bowler was then rattled. Bowled a few wides - 2 runs a piece and in the last over an extra ball (only 2 runs during the rest of innings) and another few singles and down to the last ball and needing a 6 to win. It went for a single and we finished on 136.

The never give up attitude was brilliant and great first T20 league game!

Well done to Nev who finished on 56 not out and Si with a 9 not out - with a couple of key boundaries to keep us in the game.

The boys stayed with the away team and got contributions for BBQ and drinks after the game - all helps towards fund raising.

With the scoring system for the league, we got bonus points for bowling them all out and getting to 136 and finished on the same points as the team we lost to and are joint top! However, another game in league is tonight.

This weekend we welcome Wickham St Paul and will be looking to avenge the double they did over us last season.

Team sheet details out shortly.

Have a good weekend.
