MATCH REPORT vs GESTINGTHORPE Home and Fantasy update

19 Jul 2023

Good afternoon all

Please see attached the updated fantasy update following the game on Sunday.

Mist Rolling 23 still way out in front but the deficit has been reduced to 798 points - it was 1200.

Rest of the season for everyone to catch up!

On Sunday we welcomed Gestingthorpe to the Heath, looking to avenge our close defeat earlier in the

season.

A few of us returning with sore heads following the T20 Finals day in Edgbaston, we met at the pub

for a pre match beer (or 2) and then headed to the ground.

Tris went out with their skipper for the Toss but they wanted us to field first as he wasn't sure how

strong they were, as some players they had not seen (ringers!)

Jack and Jeppo were elected to open the bowling.

Jack got a wicket maiden in the first over after bowling him out first ball.

He would continue his spell from the highroad end for the maximum 7 overs and took another, bowling

their number 4 in the 4th over. Finished his spell 7 overs 2 for 16 with 2 maidens.

Jeppo at the other end and it took him 3 overs before he got their number 2 with a catch from Logan.

Jeppo then went on to get their number 3 out, with another catch from Logan.

Jeppo finished 2 for 26 from his 7 overs.

The openers were done and replaced by Wellsy at the high road end and Neville from the Pavilion end.

What we were not expecting was someone they haven't seen before, being able to hold the bat.

Wellsy was hit for a big 6 off the second ball and a few more 4s and 6s during his 6 over spell

and finished without a wicket. 0 for 58 from 6.

Neville was supporting at the other end for 3 of the overs and was also given the same treatment.

0 for 43 from 3 overs.

The pair had got their eye in and were hitting big shots - over the trees to the edge of the pitch.

Chown was on to replace Neville and was keeping it tighter with only 16 runs from first 3 overs, he

then went on to leap like a salmon off his own bowling to take the first of the big hitters out for 96.

Chowny finished his spell - 1 for 30 from 5 overs.

At the other end, I was elected to bowl 4 overs and then a further 1 from the other.

Before I proceed to this, I started the day top of the bowling averages, keen to bowl and said a crap

ball will likely will buy a wicket..........how wrong was I!

After the first over was knocked for 14, the second 2 overs went for a further 15 runs. What happened

in overs 4 and 5 have never been seen at the club before. Both overs had four 6s (yes 4) a 4 and

some singles. The biggest straight 6 went well beyond the pond and not sure if it has come down yet.

Lost ball didn't help, as another came out and I went again.

My 5 overs went 0 for 80 runs - pretty much a third of their total and saw me officially retire from bowling!

I'm not sure in LCC history that anyone has been hit for that many in so little overs and gone from top

to bottom of the averages in one innings............some say record breaker.......a lot of others would call

me something else!

Dan Common had 2 overs at the high road end after my spell there and was being hit too. 0 for 34.

There lad had a good knock and hit 134 not out.

Gestingthorpe had set a total of 303 to win from their 35 overs.

After eating too much at tea and licking our wounds, we went about the chase for the win - as we are

a chasing team (skipper's words)

Knowing we need a quick start and to keep pace of the run rate, Tris and Logey opened and they

went off like a rocket. The first over went for 21 runs.

We were going about 11 runs an over before Logey was the first depart but not before some big hits

and getting his 50 and finished on 58 being caught out.

Jack went to support Tris briefly before being bowled after two boundaries, finishing on 8.

It was Minndo's turn, with Tris still knocking it about at the other end. Minndo departed after 3 singles

for 3.

I joined Tris at the crease and with LCC still on track, I said to get eye in and go, with Tris to stay in

and support. I hit a six, 2 singles and then liked the bowler and first 2 balls went for 6 and got greedy

and was caught out going again (it didnt get anywhere near the boundary!) finished on 20 and didnt

claw back my deficit.

Wellsy joined Tris at the crease and got his eye in quickly with a 4 and a 6.

Tris departed soon after and was caught out on 72.

Jeppo joined Wellsy.  Jeppo off the mark with 4 and a quite a few singles.

Wellsy then departed after hitting a few more boundaries and was out caught and bowled for 27.

The chase was on and 4 more wickets in hand. It was over to Jeppo and Dan Common to see if they

could steer us home. It was boundaries galore from both of them. Even a comical over throw after,

running 2, they threw it too hard and went for a 4.

Jeppo went on to score his first official 50 for the club (scored one on tour but not to the averages)

The pair went on to knock and we were tied in the 32nd over before the winning 4 was hit.

LCC WIN!!!

Great partnership from Jeppo and Dan to see us across the line and working together well.

Jeppo finished 58 not out and Dan 30 not out.

We had chased the total down in 31.4 overs and still plenty more in the tank. The skipper was right,

we are a chasing team and what a game.

A total of 608 runs scored. We scored 30 fours and 15 sixes in our chase.

I think this is one of, if not the highest runs scored at Leavenheath and cannot remember a game

where so many boundaries were scored (even if half of them from my bowling)

Great win, celebrated with a pint at the Hare.

The win streak continues.

We are due to visit Lindsell this weekend but player numbers are low. If you want to play, please

contact Tris asap.

See you all soon

thanks
